Renesas Electronics Selects Altium as a Unified PCB Development Tool and Acceleration Partner

Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solutions provider, today announced that it has entered into a partnership with the U.S

Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced a collaboration with Altium, LLC, a global software vendor in San Diego, California, to standardize the development of all printed circuit board (PCB) designs on the cloud-based platform Altium 365.

Renesas currently employs a variety of PCB design tools across the company, in part because the different businesses it has acquired over the past few years have brought their legacy software to the company. As Renesas integrates components from different product groups into system solutions as "winning combinations," a unified PCB design tool will simplify board designs for demonstrating and evaluating these "winning combinations," as well as all other product suites, reducing design complexity, improving system cost structure, and accelerating time to market.

Renesas' "Winning Combinations" are engineering-proven solutions that integrate embedded processing, analog, power, and connectivity products, enabling customers to leverage this advanced platform to implement design ideas, shorten product development cycles, and reduce the overall risk of bringing designs to market. Renesas now offers more than 400 "Winning Combinations" for a wide range of customers and markets.

Altium 365 is the ideal cloud-based PCB design platform. With Altium 365, users are able to collaborate with design stakeholders and other stakeholders while keeping their IP secure and their designs under version control. Users can organize designs, libraries, and contributors in one place while sharing design links for real-time collaboration. Thanks to the unique CAD intelligence, data can be stored and accessed online. Renesas will publish the ECAD library for all of its products to the Altium Public Vault, allowing customers to select Renesas components directly from the Altium library through features such as the Manufacturer Component Search on Altium 365 to reduce time to market.

Chris Allexandre, Senior Vice President, CSMO, and Head of the Global Sales and Marketing Headquarters, Renesas Electronics, said, "Renesas is committed to digital transformation and streamlining our customers' design processes. The ECAD tool migration is an important step in our evolution, and we look forward to building a lasting and deep strategic relationship with Altium." ”

DK Singh, Vice President, Systems & Solutions Division, Renesas, said, "This migration is closely aligned with Renesas' solutions and digitalization strategy, which includes fast-access IoT and other strategic initiatives. This harmonization of development workflows will enable internal global collaboration and make it easier for customers to integrate Renesas products and solutions into their systems. ”

In the meantime, Renesas will continue to provide full support to customers using ECAD design platforms other than Altium, as well as provide ECAD libraries for other ECAD tools as needed. Renesas is building on its partnership with Altium in a number of ways to strengthen the company's broader and deeper go-to-market strategy. The unification of ECAD tools is the first step.

Marc Boonen, Chief Commercial Officer at Altium, said, "Renesas is one of the true leaders in the semiconductor business, with the industry's broadest product portfolio and design facilities around the world. We are proud that Renesas has chosen Altium 365 as the platform of choice for its PCB tools and look forward to working together to create a high-quality, comprehensive solution faster and at a lower cost than ever before." ”
